Scoring Guideline for Lab Reports

Each score category contains a range of student responses that reflect the descriptions given below.

4.0 pts. :

Outstanding!

  • Introduction, EDD, and the Conclusion are well thought out and thorough.
  • Answers and responses go well beyond what is necessary.
  • Demonstrates a full and complete understanding of concepts.
  • The paper is neat, clean, and well presented.
  • Data table is properly formatted, labeled, and easy to read. An appropriate graph is used and contains an appropriate title, labels, a proper scale, and a summary of the trends. The graph is creative, attractive and shows a clear picture of the data.

3.5 pts. :

Nice Job!
  • Introduction, EDD, and Conclusion are well thought out.
  • Answers and responses are complete and correct.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of concepts.
  • The paper is neat, clean, and presentable.
  • Data table is properly formatted, labeled, and easy to read. An appropriate graph is used and contains an appropriate title, labels, a proper scale, and a summary of the trends. The graph shows a clear picture of the data.

3.0 pts. :

Meets Standards
  • Introduction, EDD, the Conclusion, and other Answers are generally correct and complete although minor inaccuracies may appear.
  • Demonstrates a reasonable understanding of concepts.
  • The paper is presentable and easy to read.
  • Data table is properly formatted, labeled, and easy to read. An appropriate graph is used and contains an appropriate title, labels, a proper scale, and a summary of the trends.

2.5 pts. :

Still Not There
  • Introduction, EDD, the Conclusion, and Responses are generally complete, but may be somewhat brief or vague.
  • Questions are answered although some may be inaccurate or incomplete.
  • Demonstrates a limited understanding of concepts.
  • The paper is readable.
  • Data table and graph are complete, but contain minor inaccuracies.

2.0 pts. :

Needs Work!
  • Answers and responses are generally incorrect, incomplete, or left unanswered.
  • Conclusion is too brief or vague.
  • Shows evidence of misconceptions and/or copying.
  • The paper contains unnecessary markings.
  • Data table and graph are incomplete.

1.0 pts. :

    :-(
  • Most answers and responses are incomplete or unanswered.
  • Shows a lack of effort.
  • The paper is unpresentable or unreadable.
